Wooden CN caboose #78581 acquired by the Owen Sound Marine and Rail Museum in 2003. Currently on display outside the former CN railroad depot in downtown Owen Sound.
The caboose started life in Chicago as a boxcar on the Grand Trunk Western Railway (GTW). In 1947 it was converted to a caboose at CN's Leaside shops in Toronto. It entered service 13 December of that year.
It was retired in the 1980's and sat on a siding in Owen Sound before being purchased by a nearby Mcdonald's restaurant.
The caboose has been restored to its 1940's appearance inside and out.
The caboose is available for tours through the museum office.
Current Use: Showpiece display of the Owen Sound Marine and Rail Museum.
Type Of Caboose: Cupola, "Standard"
