Formed in 1960, the Coldstream Fire Department now has two fire halls, this one and another, the Lavington Hall at 9739 School Road in Coldstream, the two manned by 50 volunteer members. This hall is the more central of the two, and as such has the most equipment, totalling five trucks. At the Lavington Station are stationed a pair of antiques, a 1928 American LeFrance and a 1938 International, both restored, used in parades, etc. through the summer. This hall's equipment lineup follows (check out their apparatus here):

Coldstream Fire Hall History

The Coldstream Fire Department was formed by a group of volunteer residents in 1960 for two primary reasons: reduced insurance rates and safety for the community. These two reasons still apply today. The faces of the members have changed over the years, but the commitment and dedication have stood the test of time. We attract men and women with diverse backgrounds and skills who share the common thread of service.

While our services and scope have expanded since the ‘60s, the Department’s mandate has continued to be the protection of life and property from a platform of safety. Coldstream Fire Department has always operated as efficiently as possible to ensure the best value for the community’s dollar. Previously known as a volunteer fire department, we are now paid on call. Our Operational Guidelines are structured to meet regulatory requirements from WorkSafe BC, Labour Standards Canada, and other industry standards such as the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).

We’re community focused too. The Coldstream Fire Hall has a longstanding practice of fundraising, planning and delivering Halloween Fireworks. We are actively involved with our schools, community functions, fire prevention and awareness, college bursaries, beavers and cubs, guides and brownies, and other community events. We have a strong and progressive relationship with other emergency services in the area that contributes to the public safety network.

Fifty members from the Lavington and Coldstream halls are available for response via pagers through a central dispatch. We respond to calls for help and assistance for a wide variety of emergencies through the 911 system. A mutual aid agreement is also in place with the other Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) fire halls for assistance as required. Regional training and fire prevention (inspection and investigation) are also provided.
