Located within Mt. Lake Cemetery is the gravesite of Aubra E. Griffiths and her husband, Charles Griffiths. Aubra has two markers here. Aubra Edna (Bradbury) Griffiths was born Sept. 2, 1901 and passed away Aug. 31, 2002, just two days shy of her 101th birthday. I located her obituary on Find a Grave
here and contains a very nice bio of her. I was surprised to read that she was the first student at Henley High School (in Klamath Falls) and that she graduated from Oregon State University (formally known as Oregon Agricultural College), my alma mater. Her obit reads:
Aubra Edna Griffiths, a member of a pioneer Klamath Basin family, died Aug. 31, 2002, of natural causes at her Klamath Falls residence just two days prior to her 101st birthday.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Crystal Terrace Retirement Community. Interment was at Mt. Laki Cemetery. Davenport's Chapel of the Good Shepherd is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Griffith arrived with her parents in the Klamath Falls area in 1907. The trip from Seaside required a train ride to Yreka, a stagecoach ride to Pokegama near Keno and a boat ride up the Klamath River.
The family established their home on a farm in the Stukel Mountain area. She was the oldest of five children.
Her father Richard E. Bradbury was the first secretary of the Klamath Irrigation District.
She was the first student to attend Henley High School.
After graduating from Oregon Agricultural College in 1924, she drove by automobile to her first teaching assignment in Benson, Ariz.
Upon her return to Klamath Falls, she continued teaching in several schools, retiring from Mills Elementary School in 1966 after teaching primary grades there for many years.
For the past three years, Mrs. Griffiths was a participant in the Klamath Exceptional Aging Project and last year was honored by the Daughters of the American Revolution, which presented her with a certificate commemorating 50 years of dedicated service to the organization.
She was a member of Peace Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Charles Griffiths, who she married in 1927, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her children Mary E. Pengelly of Klamath Falls and Frank R. "Dick" Griffiths of Northbrook, Ill.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
