This memorial was installed in 2014, and was unveiled with a ceremony at its location in Brauer Park across from North Tonawanda City Hall at 10:28 a.m. Sept 11th, 2014, 13 years to the minute after the North Tower of the World Trade Center collapsed.
It was designed by a pair of recent North Tonawanda High School graduates and was constructed with their help and the help of countless city employees. The monument consists of two frosted glass towers to represent the two World Trade Center towers. A section of steel I-beam, salvaged from Ground Zero, is also part of the memorial.
"They designed it with the symbolism of the attacks in mind, there are two greenish pillars which light up at night that represent the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center. The base of the monument is a granite pentagon, with one unfinished side representing where the Pentagon was struck by a hijacked plane. The memorial is set in a circular plot with rocks which symbolizes the field where a plane went down in Shanksville, Pa."
