Den lille dampfærge Rise (bygget i 1925) sejlede som reservebåd på ruten Svendborg/Ærøskøbing. D. 30. august 1940 påsejlede færgen en mine og sank. Ombord var ialt 21 personer og 14 blev reddet. 1 af disse døde efterfølgende af sine kvæstelser. Senere samme år blev Rise bjerget og ombygget til fragtskib. Uheldet forfulgte det lille fartøj, der i 1950 forliste med 4 besætningsmedlemmer.

The little steam ferry Rise (built in 1925) sailed on the route between Svendborg and Ærøskøbing. The 30'th of August 1940 the ferry hit a mine and sank. 21 people were on board and the 14 of them were saved. later one of them died of his injuries. Later that year the ferry was salvaged and built into a cargo boat. Bad luck followed the little vessel as it sank in 1950 with 4 men on board.
