This plane was constructed in 1944 as C-467A-15-DK at the Douglas plant in Oklahoma City. It was transferred to the U.S. Air Force and had an illustrious career. It flew on June 6, 1944 in the D-Day Invasion, and from December 1944 to January 1945, was part of the Battle of the Bulge.
Returned to the U.S. after the War, it was flown by Kerr McGee Oil Industry, Inc. under the registry NC65162 from November 1945 to June 1977 after which it was placed on display at the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds from 1977 to 2006.
It was moved to its current location at the Metro Tech Aviation campus at S.W. 54th Street and MacArthur in August 2006 for restoration and display. At the time of our visit, unfortunately, it has fallen into hard times, sitting on flat tires with some broken windows. It currently shows a registry number of 892953, which is a fake number for display only.
