Sydney Amyas Winterbottom
Sydney (Sid) was born in Calgary, Alberta in June of 1896. He was a student at the time of his enlistment in Vernon, British Columbia in July, 1915. Winterbottom served overseas with the 29th Battalion until his death on November 6, 1917 at age 21. A Private in C Company of the 29th Battalion of the Canadian Infantry, he was killed at
Passchendaele, one of the most costly and deadly battles of the war, with 275,000 British casualties, 220,000 German casualties and 15,654 Canadians killed or wounded.
The son of Arthur and Jennie Louise Winterbottom, of 136, Columbia Street, Kamloops, British Columbia, he was buried at Menin Gate (Ypres) Memorial, Belgium.
