Charles M. Schulz was born in Minneapolis and moved to St. Paul Minnesota when he was young. He began his Peanuts comic strip in a local paper and tried to get signed on as an independent artist which was unheard of at the time. The paper turned him down but were willing to keep him on as their cartoonist. He eventually moved to Sebastopol where he settled in with his family and built a drawing studio to continue his Peanuts comic series as an independent artist. His studio burned down which inspired him to moved his family to Santa Rosa CA. He lived in Santa Rosa until his death in 2000. He now resides in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in the Veterans section for his time served in WWII in the US Army.
