A plaque on the church states, in part:
The original nave section of the church was opened & blessed by Archbishop John Bede Polding OSB of Sydney and Bishops of Bathurst, Goulburn & Maitland Dioceses on 30 April 1871. St. Joseph had been declared Universal Patron of the church by Pope Pius IX in 1870. St.Mary of the Cross MacKillop (Australia's First Saint) visited Orange in 1876.
The church had an addition (that section on the right) with the date stone being laid on 16 May 1897.
The church continues to serve its parishioners to this day.
