Located on a grassy area in front of the California Pines Lodge is a citizen memorial plaque monumented on volcanic rock that reads:

WITH DEEP APPRECIATION, THE

PINES DEDICATED THIS MEMORIAL
TO THE CARLSBERG FAMILY, WHOSE

This lodge continues to provide lodging accommodations to guests as well as offer property lots for sale for permanent residency. This community owners association sports its own reservoir lake and small airport. I don't know if the Carlsberg family still owns the lodge and land but the property has definitely been going through some tough times with the economy down.
