The University of Calgary's athletic teams are called the Dinos, and their mascot is a red-and-gold Tyrannosaurus rex named "Rex". This statue, which was originally located at the Calgary Zoo, was placed on the front lawn of head coach Peter Connellan by the 1987 Dinos Football team after the last game of the season. The statue sat in Connellan's backyard for 18 years, becoming a neighbourhood landmark that was visible from a walking path behind his house. When Connellan moved to another neighbourhood in 2006, he donated the statue to the university and it was installed beside the Kinesiology Complex. The statue is approximately 7 feet tall and is made of concrete on a wire mesh structure. The hands have broken off, but the statue is otherwise in good condition.
