The statue in the center of the fountain was sculpted by Josef Magnus in 1984. It depicts a young, squatting girl with a bird on her head, one on her left shoulder, and one in each hand. Water spews from each bird's mouth. The young girl appears to be in a feathered costume. This is a depiction of the Papagena figure in Mozart's The Magic Flute opera.
A plaque at the base of the statue reads:
Josef Magnus 'Papagena'/Bronze 1984
ein Geschenk an die Stadt Salzburg
(the last line was obscured by rocks)
