The Genius of Connecticut is a 17.5' high, 6,600 pound bronze sculpture of a winged female figure. The figure is wearing long flowing robes, has a garland of oak leaves in her hair, her arms are outstretched, and is holding a wreath in each hand. She stands on a small gold dome which sits on top of a 3' high by 3' square white marble base. The Genius of Connecticut is the symbolic protector of Connecticut.

The original, much smaller, sculpture once stood on top of the dome of the Capitol Building that was created by Randolph Rogers in 1887. This new, large version of the statue was commissioned by the state of Connecticut as part of the reconstruction of the Capitol. In 2009 the sculpture was installed in its present location beneath the dome of the Capitol.

Visitors can tour the Connecticut Capitol Building by entering the west entrance. The building is open for visitors Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm. Guided tours are available at quarter past the hour until 13:15. Self-guided booklets are available on the first floor.
