This is believed to be the western-most granite marker placed by the 1887 survey party. The stone was quarried in Raleigh and dressed by inmates at the NC State Prison. It was hauled to the site by train and wagon.
Monument is 0.2 mile east of State Road VA-738, west of Clarksville and east of Virgilina.

The site is on private property, but the monument is visible by parking along the road and climbing a 5-foot bank. It is inside a wire fence.
Historical significance:
These stones were placed under harsh weather conditions, using only the equipment available in 1887. They are considered historical artifacts by the North Carolina Geodetic Survey, which launched a search for the monuments in 2004. GEOCACHING volunteers assisted in the search.
