The Baillie House was built in 1913 by Cosom A. Bigney's for his mail order bride (who, incidentally, never arrived). The old store in which the visitor centre proper is housed is next door to the Baillie House and was built circa 1908. It once housed a bottling works which supplied thirsty miners with nonalcoholic beverages.

The grounds of the centre are beautifully landscaped, with a riot of flowers blooming through the summer. Amongst the landscaping is a picnic area shaded by large, mature trees. There is a large parking lot on the north and east sides of the property, which sits on the northeast corner of Voght Street and Mamette Avenue.
