The north end of the 1831 London Bridge was the boundary of St. Magnus the Martyr parish in London. When the London Bridge was decommissioned and sold to an American oil man and real estate developer in 1968, the parish plaque was removed. The London Bridge was then carefully disassembled, each block numbered and packed in crates. The bridge was shipped through the Panama Canal and finally made its way to the Arizona desert, where the bridge was painstakingly reassembled.
In 1976 the original parish boundary plaque of St. Magnus the Martyr, which had formerly been attached to the 1831 London Bridge across the Thames, was affixed to block of Dartmoor Granite and brought back to the London Bridge at its new location in Arizona.
A plaque explains the history and significance of this seal, and is free to visit in the Little London English Village at the north end of the bridge.
The dedication plaque reads as follows:
