ABOUT THE MONEY:
These £10 notes were introduced in 2007 as part of the Bridges of Scotland Series. The front of the note bears a portrait of Sir Walter Scott in commemoration of his 1826 Malachi Malagrowther campaign for Scottish banks to retain the right to issue their own notes. The reverse side features the Glenfinnan Viaduct.
ABOUT THE GLENFINNAN VIADUCT:
"On the West Highland Railway line between Fort William and Mallaig, the Glenfinnan Viaduct was designed by W.S. Wilson and built by Sir Robert McAlpine. A quarter of a mile long, it stands over 100 feet at its highest point. Built between 1897 and 1901, it was one of the largest concrete engineering projects ever undertaken."
