This large log barn may have been the first one build in the Kelowna area, though that is not certain. The Oblate Fathers built then used the barn until at least the 1890s, when the mission headquarters was moved to Kamloops.

Mission Barn

This saddle-notched round log structure was built in ca.1886 by the Fathers and Brothers present at the Mission at the time.

The barn was located 500 feet south of its present location on land that was once part of the Oblate Ranch. In 1973, it was relocated to its present location. This was a big undertaking as the building weighed between 40 and 50 tons.

This unique barn was used as stables in the lower section while the upper level was used for storage of hay. The centre section was used for storage of buggies and other equipment.

Immaculate Conception Mission

Founded in 1859 by Father Charles Marie Pandosy, an Oblate Missiomary, to serve the Native Okanagan People, this was the first Roman Catholic Mission in the interior of British Columbia.

Within the Okanagan Valley the mission was the first permanent non-native settlement, site of the first school and place where the first fruit and vine crops were grown.

Restored in 1958. Designated a Provincial Heritage Site in 1983. Operated by the Okanagan Historical Society.
