Originally a WWI memorial, but as time went on, other wars were etched in on the base; The Soldier's Monument was erected by the citizens of the town of Van Buren and Carter County with the aid of a State appropriation of $1,000.

Proper Description: "A figure of a World War I soldier standing dressed in a military uniform with a helmet and a back pack. He stands with his proper right hand upon his hip and his proper left hand holding the tip of a rifle.
