Three-sided wood shelter with metal roof and covered front porch with capacity for ten.

Originally built by U.S. Forest Service in 1977 as the Roan Highlands Shelter. It underwent a major remodeling in 2002 during Hard Core event to add an eating area porch and upper level bunks. Renamed to Clyde Smith Shelter in honor of a gentleman who made many wooden trail signs in the region. In 2009, Eagle Scout Curtis Baird improved the water source by adding a plastic collection drum overflowing through a pipe for easier bottle filling.

Reached NB from Iron Mountain Gap Road and SB from Hughes Gap Road.
Type: Shelter
