The Mount is the restored home of author Edith Wharton from 1902 to 1911. She was a landscape designer as well as a novelist. The flower garden was designed by her and restored to its original appearance.
A rectangular fountain is situated in the in the middle of the flower garden on the north end of the formal gardens. Three brown dolphins with their tails intertwined sit on top of a 3' high cylinder. Water rises up the cylinder, through the center of the dolphins, up through a sea shell motif cap, and back into the 25' by 10' pool.
