Though this building was built in 1907 as Smith Bros. Bookstore, the name MacKenzie appears on the frieze. That would be because MacKenzie Men's Wear occupied the building for the greatest length of time - from 1934 until 1998, 64 years.

Smith Bros. Bookstore
3212 - 30th Avenue - 1907
S.L. Smith built this brick store in 1907. Valued at $3,500, it served as Smith Bros. Bookstore until 1934 when W.G. MacKenzie & Son, a men's clothing business, moved here from a few doors east. MacKenzie's Menswear, as it came to be known, stayed at this location until 1998, when major restoration efforts took place. "Smith Bros. are arranging to erect a handsome brick building on Barnard Avenue... The building will have a frontage of 25 feet..."
