International traffic departs from JMC towards destinations in the United States, Panama, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Curaçao and Spain. The busiest international cities served are Panama City, Panama, along with Miami and Fort Lauderdale, Florida (USA). The airport also serves domestic flights to most major Colombian cities.

The airport is named honoring Jose Maria Cordova, a native of Antioquia and the city where the airport was built, who held senior positions in the administration, and played important roles in the history of the nation.
