Die um 1507 errichtete Kirche ist vermutlich das dritte Gotteshaus von Herxheim. Im dreißigjährigen Krieg waren das Langhaus mit den Seitenkapellen und der Turm bis auf seinen Rumpf zerstört worden. 1585 wurde der Turm mit einem achteckigen Teilaufbau versehen
Das heutige Kirchenschiff wurde an Stelle des spätgotischen Kirchenschiffes und der Seitenkapellen 1776/77 erbaut.
Mit dem Einbau eines gotischen Portals an der Südseite des Turmes wurde 1788 ein Zugang zum Turm von außen eingerichtet. Zuvor war der Zugang zum Turm nur vom Innern der Kirche aus möglich. Im Zuge einer Turmneugestaltung 1833/34 wurde die Glockenstube höher angeordnet. Glocken und Turmuhr wurden der besseren Wahrnehmung wegen aufgestockt.

The church was built around 1507 is probably the third church of Herxheim. In the thirty years war, the nave had been destroyed by the side chapels and the tower down to its hull. In 1585 the tower was provided with an octagonal body structure
The present nave was built in place of the late Gothic nave and side chapels 1776-77.
With the installation of a Gothic portal on the south side of the tower, access to the tower was set up in 1788 from the outside. Previously, the only access to the tower from the inside of the church was possible. As part of a tower redesign 1833-34 the belfry was placed higher. Bells and clock were increased due to the better perception.
