Located outside the home of the Gold Hill Historical Museum are a number of preserved machines on public display. One particular machine residing here is a cider press and contains a placard that reads:
Cider PressThis cider press was stored for many years at
Del Rio Orchard in Gold Hill. Del Rio was
formerly owned by Hob Deuel who generously
donated the press in 1998. This press was
originally used in Medford. The wooden parts
were in an advanced state of decay and the time of
accession and have been faithfully restored to
their present condition.
There are multiple dates stamped into the press. A patent date of 'Nov 19 1872', below it a date of 'Jan 2 1872' and below that a date of 'June 6 1876'. I would surmise that this press was made after 1876. These preserved machines can be viewed during daylight hours seven days a week.
Type of Machine: Cider Press
Year the machine was built: 1876
Year the machine was put on display: 1998
