Roaring River State Park does not have an entrance fee. Although the campgrounds have opened and closed seasons, the playgrounds and picnic areas remain open all year round.
This playground is an excellent place for the little kids who may not be as enthusiastic about fishing as their older kin. Parents and older siblings can fish at nearby Roaring River knowing that the little ones are also having a ball at the playground.
This particular playground has two components: a swingset, and one of those modern combination things with steps, ladders, slides, forts, and other things for kids to use their imaginations on. I'm calling this playground the Hatchery Playground because it is close to the hatchery portion of the park.
Do not, under any circumstances, leave this playground and any fishing you might have been doing, without seeing the hatchery and the beautiful spring that is the entire source of the river. It is the 20th largest spring in Missouri, which has a lot of springs due to the karst geology in the Ozarks. In fact, while you're at it, three are a whole slew of other Waymarks right in this area -- all interesting.
