Both sides are identical, with the lighthouse engraved above the family name, "Fetes," and at the base of the stone it says:
Keeper of Belle Isle Lighthouse
April 16, 1886 to April 16, 1930
Mr. Fetes was my great-great grandfather, and he was actually the last keeper of the Belle Isle Lighthouse (which no longer stands). Unfortunately, "progress" came along, yielding way to automation and a caretaker. It is said that his losing this job broke his heart and took away his will to live: He died the following year.
Mr. Fetes is surrounded by several members of his family (and a few in-laws), and his wife, Mary, is next to him. His own headstone is simple, and says:
Father
Louis Fetes
1861-1931
