An 8' high by 10' diameter fountain was installed on the Barre Common by the sister of James R. Brown. A two-tiered painted bronze sculpture, with a leaf motif, is installed in the center of a circular concrete basin.
On the south side of the basin is the inscription:
THE JAMES R. BROWN MEMORIAL
TO THE
G.A.R. COMRADES AND THE TOWN OF BARRE
On the north side of the basin is the inscription:
ERECTED BY HIS SISTER SARA G. BROWN 1909.
