The Arden area was settled in the 1870s, the early pioneers noticed an abundance of Prairie Crocus (Anemone patens) blooming in early spring. The crocus is well adapted to light, drier soils with lots of sunlight, and it tolerates light grazing and occasional grass fires. In 1906, it was proclaimed Manitoba’s floral emblem. (visit link)
Thousands of wild Prairie Crocus bloom each April at a local heritage site and in other locations in the village so that Arden is known as the Crocus Capital of Manitoba.

The Arden Crocus Festival began in 2001 as a rural family event marking the beginning of Spring and is held on the first Saturday in May.

These LARGE metal crocuses were designed and built by Dennis Gagnon.
