Located within Rock Point Pioneer Cemetery are numerous homemade tombstones, the majority of which are made in recent years. This particular tombstone is of Virgil D. Baldwin who's marker is a two-man saw, painted sky blue and contains a stencil of horseback riders in a mountain scene in white. Virgil's name and dates are made of adhesive letters. His grave is located in an older, wooden fenced in area.
I found Virgil's obituary on FindaGrave.com here that reads:
Virgil Douglas Baldwin, of Central Point, Ore., passed away Thursday, May 21, 2009. A graveside service was held Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Rock Point cemetery in Gold Hill, Ore. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Effie Baldwin; daughters, Virginia Huffman and Karen Barnes; five grandchildren, Douglas Huffman, Patrick Huffman, Amanda Knapp, Davina Barnes, Shawna Barnes; and seven great-grandchildren. Virgil was born in Beagle, Ore. (now known as Sams Valley) on Aug. 4, 1928, he was preceded in death by his two brothers; three sisters; and his parents, Olive and Earl Baldwin. His most admired characteristic that he will always be remembered for was his ability to communicate with anyone, "he never met a stranger".
