This is an old warehouse building for goods brought in on rail cars in the small town of McColl, SC. Across the tracks is the old general merchandise store that used the warehouse along with others in the neighborhood.

Once a vibrant little textile town, the cotton mills are long gone. The heyday of railroad shipping to small towns is gone too. Agriculture is still a major business but seldom uses rail traffic in Marlboro County. Still a stout brick building, it would make a great loft apartment or studios in a larger city bit there is little call or money in this area for that use. Sadly, some real]y nice buildings are going to ruin from not being used. This one stored materials shipped in for use in the agricultural and industrial setting of the community. The railroad still uses this spur track for some traffic to Bennettsville and some other sites just south but this is no where near the volume in the times past. The siding track has been long since taken up by CSX. Another death knell for old warehouses is the JIT or "Just In Time" practices of businesses today to avoid tying up money in inventory.
