The Calder and Hebble Navigation was built to make the Rive Calder navigable from Wakefield and to make a connection with the Rochdale canal at Sowerby Bridge.

The start of the canal is at Fall Ing at Wakefield and this mile post marks the 12 mile point from there.

It is rather worn, though still readable. It stands at the side of the canal tow path in front of a footpath that leads to a footbridge over a nearby railway.
