North Stonington is a rural community of about 5,000 people. It's history goes back to colonial days as settlers moved north from the coastal settlements of what is now Mystic, Connecticut.
This freestanding clock is particularly outstanding for the picture and inscription on a round, white face with black Roman numerals and minute marks. In the center of an inner circle on the clock is a picture of the a mill along a stream, perhaps the Shammrock River which is near the clock. Beneath the picture is the inscription:
MILLTOWN
INC. 1807
Curved around the inner circle is the inscription:
TOWN OF NORTH STONINGTON, CONN.
An ID medallion on the base identifies this as a "Verdin Street Clock 3R08."
