A practical twin to the Wise County Courthouse in Decatur, the Ellis County Courthouse is best known for its gargoyles, claimed by some to be revenge by an artist upon a woman who jilted him. The courthouse is easy to find, and is one of Waxahachie's gems.

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1949 (MEW) THIS STATION IS LOCATED IN THE CENTER OF THE COURT HOUSE SQUARE IN WAXAHACHIE, TEXAS. THE BUILDING IS OF RED SANDSTONE AND GRANITE, WITH THE CLOCK TOWER IN THE CENTER, AND ABOUT 35 FEET HIGHER THAN THE BUILDING PROPER. THE TOWER IS TOPPED BY A ROUND GRAY ROOF WITH A 15-FT. STAFF PROJECTING FROM THE CENTER. THE POINT INTERSECTED WAS THIS STAFF.
