Although there is a franchise of Mel's Drive-In Diners...this Mel's Diner is not part of that chain. The chain has a website listing its locations (visit link) and this one is not on the list. This Mel's may be intended to evoke the TV program Alice which took place in a Mel's Diner and was based on a 1974 movie Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore.
