Die mehr als 6 km lange Kurpromenade in der Inselhauptstadt Westerland ist voller Cafes und anderer Einrichtungen, darunter die sog. Musikmuschel. Dahinter befindet sich der kilometerlange Sandstrand. Saisonbedingt finden hier zahlreiche Aktivitäten statt. Jedes Jahr im März befindet sich hier ein Verpflegungs- und Aktionspunkt des Syltlaufes mit viel Publikum (beim Syltlauf wird die Insel auf 33,33 km durchquert). Der Zugang zum Strand ist kurtaxepflichtig. Nach Westerland geht es nur mit dem (Auto)Zug. Ab Westerland fahren jedoch Busse in jeden Teil der Insel. Im Norden oder Süden von Sylt gibt es weitere, ruhigere Strände sowie zahlreiche Sehenswürdigkeiten.
The island's capital city Westerland is famous for its long sandy beaches (see photo). between the city and the beach there is a 6 km long boardwalk full of cafes and facilities and there is also a little music theater. During the year there are many activities and events regarding culture or sports. Every year in march there is a 33,33 km run all over the island. Entering the boardwalk requires admission fee. Westerland can be reached by train (cars are transported by train). The city is starting point for multiple busses to reach every part of the island. In the smaller villages in the north and the south of Sylt there are much more beaches and also interesting old churches and buildings to visit.

Admission fee is 3,10 Euro in main season (01.05. - 31.10.) and 1,50 in all other months. Visitor's cards are checked at boardwalk entrance and even on the beach.
