This turntable was originally located in Bagby and was moved to its current location in El Portal by the National Park Service. The turntable is hand-powered. Once a locomotive or car was positioned on the turntable, large wooden handles at either end were pushed to move the track into its new position.
The railroad is no longer in service and the turntable is part of a static display of historic railroad equipment.
