This caboose was in use for freight trains on the Yosemite Valley Railroad from 1922 to 1945. The origins of the caboose are unknown but it is assumed that it was purchased from another railroad. The caboose it one of several railroad pieces found in El Portal, which was the terminus for the YVRR.
A historian for Yosemite National Park did some
research into the origins of the caboose but was unable to determine the original manufacturer or date of manufacture.
