This building was home to Wilton Public School from the time it was built in 1855 until 1970. Since then it has been owned, and lovingly restored, by the husband and wife who operate Wilton Pottery.
The schoolhouse was purchased for $5,000 and included the surrounding four acres. Wilton Pottery's business began to grow quickly after 1976 and in in 1981, the owners gutted and rebuilt the inside of the original stone building. Shortly after that, they began selling their product out of the schoolhouse rather than sending it to other stores to sell.
