Height of Land Portage – Embarrass, MN - U.S. National Register of Historic Places on Waymarking.com

Embarrass is named for the Embarrass River taken from the French word “embarrars” or debris that blocked the narrow river mouth. Voyageur maps included the “Riviere aux Embarras” in the early 1800’s. This is the location of the “Height of Land” portage along the Embarrass River. The portage is totally overgrown, and the river in this area doesn’t look very navigable.
