and

"Luxury of the Tropics

The SS Malolo launched in 1927 and shown here in
San Francisco in 1934, was the largest and most palatial
cruiser liner built in the United States at that time. She was
equipped with only first-class cabins and could reach
Hawaii in a mere four-and-a-half days with her 650
passengers."

and, thirdly:

"Did you know...
San Francisco has hosted
"world cruises" since 1910,
when the SS Cleveland called
in port carrying 762 passengers.
The 588-foot ship sailed from
New York to Europe, the Far
East and the Pacific Islands
before arriving in San Francisco.
The San Francisco Chronicle
reported that the SS Cleveland
purchased $1,000,000 worth of
supplies for the three-month
voyage back to the East Coast."
