Founder of The American Red Cross. A devoted nurse and tireless organizer who knew no enemy but the unfeeling heart. We walk the ways she took in easing the suffering at the Battle of Fredericksburg when the churches became military hospitals.

Clarissa Harlowe "Clara" Barton was born on December 25, 1821
in North Oxford, Massachusetts and died on April 12, 1912 in Glen Echo, Maryland.
The dates on the sign (1862 - 1962) are for the Centennial of the Battle of Fredericksburg.
The International Committee of the Red Cross had been founded in 1863 and then Clara Barton and a circle of her acquaintances founded the American Red Cross in Washington, D.C. on May 21, 1881.
