Bien que la date exacte n’ai pas pu être déterminée a partir des archives régionales, la construction de cette résidence remonte au début du XXe siècle. L’homme d’affaires thérésien Alexandre Hogue en est propriétaire jusqu’en 1912. Son fils, Ovila Hugue sera l’échevin de la Ville de Sainte-Thérèse en 1917 et 1919, puis maire en 1921.
En 1962 la maison est achetée par la corporation du Séminaire au coût de 18 000$. Le bâtiment devient alors le pavillon Marie-Thérèse, annexe du Séminaire de St-Thérèse destinée à l’enseignement au cour classique des jeunes filles.
Après la vente des bâtiments du séminaire au gouvernement du Québec en 1969, le pavillon est rebaptisé par un membre du clergé. Il portera le nom de l’Abitation , avec la graphie du XVIIe siècle, pour faire référence au premier établissement construit par Champlain `s Québec, en 1608. Établissement qui servit alors de logement, a lui et à ses hommes ainsi que d’entrepôt pour les provisions et des armes.
Entre 1969 et 2005 L’Abitation accueille les scouts de la région ainsi que le Camp Quatre Saison. Lorsqu’elle en fait l’acquisition, la ville de St-Thérèse effectue de nombreux travaux de mise aux normes du bâtiment dans le but d’y tenir des réunions et d’y mener des activités destinées à la population et aux organismes culturels.
Le bâtiment accueille actuellement des bureaux du Service des arts et de la culture de la Ville de Sainte-Thérèse. De plus, la population peut y suivre une grande variété d’ateliers culturels.
