Rapto de Europa (Abduction of Europa) is one of 23 sculptures in
Plaza Botero donated by Medellin artist
Fernando Botero for the renovation of the
Museum of Antioquia. Botero’s signature style, also known as "Boterismo", depicts people and figures in large, exaggerated volume, which can represent political criticism or humor, depending on the piece. He is considered the most recognized and quoted living artist from Latin America.
Wikipedia tells us about Europa:
In Greek mythology Europa was a Phoenician woman of high lineage, for whom the continent Europe was named. The story of her abduction by Zeus in the form of a white bull was a Cretan story; as Kerényi points out "most of the love-stories concerning Zeus originated from more ancient tales describing his marriages with goddesses."
The sculpture can be seen in Google Street View.
