"108-year-old was a real card shark
Edwina Rosland, Trail, B.C.'s, oldest resident, will be remembered for much more than just her age.
Rosland, 108, died last week. She was just a doll, and everyone just loved her,"" says Margot Wright, who worked with the centenarian."
Rosland had lived in Trail's Columbia View Lodge for more than 17 years. Staff members say she was the last one to leave the parties, and the first one to pick up the cards.
She couldn't count her own hands but she could sure cut the deck, says Margot Wright, a therapist at the facility.
Edwina learned crib late in life. She was in her 80s the first time she picked up the deck, but she loved it.
And she was good.
The feisty senior took to the game quickly, earning a reputation as a card shark in the close-knit community. She won her first inter-city crib tournament at the age of 93.
She even played the game on her 108th birthday on May 7.
The great-grandmother immigrated to Canada from Norway in 1927. After her husband died, she raised her five daughters on her own.
Wright says Edwina will be missed greatly.
There are some people who are 108 and don't live much life, but when you can be like her and have such a great spirit - your memory can live on forever."
