The sculpture is of a faceless figure that is hooded and shrouded in cloth. The figure's feet and hands are somewhat visible under the cloth. According to a brass plate attached to the base of the sculpture, it was placed in memory of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Don Giovanni, which premiered at the theater on October 29, 1787.

"This figure represents the opera’s character Il Commendatore, who appears as a ghost. The work was created by Czech-born, Austrian-raised artist Anna Chromy and is one of several "empty cloak" statues she has created. It was installed in 2000." --Source (visit link)
