The plaque, at the base of the memorial, reads:
A soldier of 36 Engineer Regiment (Search) of Maidstone's Invicta Barracks is depicted returning from a mission in Helmand Province Afghanistan and represents a lasting tribute by the town to the members of the regiment whose sacrifice and barvery is hereby recognised and celebrated.
This statue was erected by public demand and subscription by
Maidstone Borough Council and was unveiled on November 1st 2011 by the Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel S J Hulme MBE RE.

These well tended gardens, although not described as a garden of remembrance, not only has this memorial but also the town's cenotaph and is a peaceful location.
