The nicely maintained Civil War monument in Shelburne Falls, MA, was erected by public subscription in Arms Cemetery. A 25' tall granite obelisk stands on a three step base. The monument is inscribed on all for sides on polished dados. Two bands with the names of battles encircle the shaft.

On the front, south face, above a polished dado is the raised capital letter:

S

The bands on the south face of shaft are inscribed:

GETTYSBURG
and
FREDRICKSBURG

The south dado has the inscription:

IN HONOR OF
THE FALLEN SOLDIERS
OF SHELBURNE
___

KILLED OR DIED OF WOUNDS
14
DIED IN REBEL PRISONS
5
TOTAL 26
FROM ALL CAUSES.

There are actually 27 names on the monument. It's apparently that the last name on the east dado was added later.
