At the very top of the granite column memorial is an earth globe. The column was erected, for now what would be equivalent to $2.1 million, by a group wanting recognize the local achievement of James Rumney in spite the concurrent successful effort of Robert Fulton. Located on a rocky cliff high above the Potomac River at the end of a quiet street.
