In Boston's Fan Pier District, in an open space next to the Fort Point Channel, is this painted utility box with clocks, raindrops and sun with human faces.
The utility box is located along Sleeper Street, near Seaport Boulevard. Parking is at a premium in most of Boston, so...good luck finding one nearby. There is a parking garage on Farnsworth Street.
The box is painted on three sides (the door on the fourth is plain grey). The general background colors are oranges. Figures on this box include tall red clock buildings, blue water, little blue raindrops, and the sun with rays on the side facing the park. Most of the clock buildings have white lines showing human features including eyes, arms, and clothes. On the top is a big gray cloud with face features, that may be the source of the raindrops, which also have faces. On the lip of the top, facing the road is the following text:
"PSY: Mayor Menino."
I'm not sure what PSY means - the artist's initials? Mayor Menino refers to former Mayor, Thomas Menino, who was a friend of the arts. This utility box was not listed on the Public Art Boston web site. Perhaps it's too new or the site has some catching up to do.
